I would agree with PK's comment but, how are you going to change the minds and commitment of the administration and the trustees in order to divert church funds to help us be more competitive? If Kalani keeps on improving the team, we will be looking at having to replace the Head Coach as well in the future as he who be able to triple or quadruple his salary at other institutions. (see Broncho Mendenhall as a case study). The problem could possibly be solved by allowing donations to the program to go towards the much-needed funds in the football program without diverting church funds. As an example, it has been reported that billionaire and new owner of the Utah Jazz, Ryan Smith, offered a significant amount of money to go to the football program to help out the football team and it was turned down by the university. I'm not sure we can ever get the church leaders to see the value of what the football team does for promoting the Y and our teachings around the world as they try to balance the needs of a global church. But, I agree, we will continue to see this happen to our staff and coaches and basically tear out the foundations of a successful continuity for our players by losing key pieces if the university and church leaders don't do something about it.
